Water Facts
Today's consumer is a
knowledgeable consumer. We have so many choices, making the right decision can
at times be a challenge. To help you, Just One Drop Water Shops has compiled
answers to Frequently Asked Questions. We trust that with this information, you
will feel confident in making important decisions for you and your
family.

Water is Essential to a Healthy Life
Water is an important ingredient
to your health. Doctors recommend we drink 6 to 8 glasses of pure water each
day for our best possible health. Drinking water is so particularly important
when we realize that nearly 70% of our body weight is made up of water. When
you decrease the amount of water to your body by 5%, your working performance
declines by 20% and in some cases 30%. Water is essential in dissolving the
body's waste products and flushing out toxins. This is why we can't survive
without water.

Chlorine
Chlorine is an inorganic gas (C2), widely
used as a water disinfectant, and is an oxidizing agent for organic matter such
as iron, etc. The combination of chlorine and organic matter like soil and
leaves are by-products that cause Trihalomethanes (THMS). These chemicals,
which are often present in our drinking water, are known as carcinogens or
cancer-causing organic chemicals, which are produced by the reaction of chorine
on organic chemicals. Chorine by-products are a potential risk in our water
supply. Chorine chemically bonds to the protein in our hair and skin,
destroying its natural ecological balance. While it is okay for removing stains
in your laundry, chorine can leave your hair dry and brittle and make your skin
flaky and itchy.

Don't We Need the Minerals in the Water?
There are two forms of minerals: inorganic
and organic. Inorganic minerals refer to non-vegetable or non-animal matter,
i.e. not living. These include calcium, iron, and magnesium found in water.
Since these components are non-living, our bodies find it difficult to make use
of these minerals and our cells reject them. The result of ingesting inorganic
minerals is an accumulation of debris in our bodies. Organic minerals on the
other hand are living, and are found in foods like vegetables, fruits, grains,
meats and nuts which form our daily diet. These minerals are assimilated by our
cells and are essential for good health. Over 95% of minerals ingested daily
come from food and less than 5% from water. If you rely on water as a source of
your required minerals, you will greatly lack essential minerals that your body
needs. At Just One Drop Water Shops we believe it makes good sense to
remove all inorganic contaminants, chemical, bacteria and other impurities from
drinking water and rely on our foods for the useful minerals we require for
good health. For your water needs you can rely on "Common Sense In A
Bottle".

What is Reverse Osmosis?
Reverse Osmosis (R/O) is a method of
filtration by which the water is first mechanically filtered with a sediment
filter and then the water is pressed through a semi-osmotic membrane. The
membrane separates water for the rest of the total dissolved solids or
(impurities). Then the water is passed through a carbon block filter for (taste
and odour). A reverse osmosis system has a holding tank for the purified water.
R/O systems are excellent choice to "remove everything". These
systems perform better in soft water and the minimum requirement for system
pressure is 35 to 100 PSI. (Water pressure).

What is Cryptosporidium?
Cryptosporidium is a waterborne parasite
that lives in hoofed animals like hogs and cattle. The parasite can be passed
into surface water through their waste. Cryotosporidium from animal wastes have
been found in rivers, streams, lakes, reservoirs and many other types of
surface water. Infection can last for months and can be fatal.

|
What is Giardia?
Giardia is a waterborne parasite that can
be found in a number of animals species other than humans. The deposition of
the cysts by beavers, dogs, etc. in surface water or watershed poses a problem.
Ingestion by humans of one or more cysts may cause disease, as contrasted to
most bacterial illnesses where hundreds to thousands or organisms must be
consumed to produce illness. Normally illness lasts for 1 to 2 weeks, but there
have been cases of chronic infections lasting months to years.

Do Tap Water Filters Give Me Safe Water?
Many water filters are not effective in
removing cryptosporidium and giardia. The portable jug-type filters available
at most stores cannot remove these parasites. Only filtration devices tested
and certified to NSF standard 53 can remove cryptosporidium and giardia.
